5th Scouts up for prestigious awardUnder the leadership of ASL Katy, the 5th Scout’s hard work on the Save a Tonne leaflet has been recognised and they have been short-listed for the Yorkshire Post’s Environmental Award in the Young People’s category. It’s a great tribute to both Katy and the Scouts, good luck at the awards ceremony in March!

Blakedean 2010This year's leader walk was cancelled due to the weather - now rearranged for the weekend of 19th February 2010.
Christmas Tree CollectionThank you and well done to all leaders, parents and young members of 5th Spen Valley who gave up their time to help raise £440 with this years Christmas tree collection and special thanks to the fund raising committee for getting things organised.

Beavers & Cubs Christmas Party
5th Spen Valley Beavers and Cubs enjoy themselves dressing up for their fancy dress party this year. Cub Promise VideoAs part of their Artists Badge the Cubs have created a video themed on the Cub Scout Promise; watch the YouTube video
Tree PlantingAround 80 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Parents and Leaders turned up at Fan Wood Camp Site, Gomersal to plant new trees. Greg the warden was thrilled with the turnout and thanked the 5th for all their hard work. Follow the link for some photos of the day.
France 2008 - Alps AdventureThe Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from the 1st, 3rd and 5th Spen Valley Scout Groups are back from their fantastic 8 day Ardeche and Alps adventure in France.

New TentsWest Yorkshire Free Masons have kindly donated £1500 for the group to buy new tents and equipment.
Fund RaisingSeveral events have raised lots of cash recently, mainly towards the Scout's France trip.
A massive thank you to all who donated teddies and prizes for the tombola, and wine for the water and wine stall, and especially to those who gave up their time to help on the day. We made a very impressive £647.60, the Wine and Water made £316.50, the Tombolas made £303.10 and the Slinky Apples made £28.00. Thank you all again and Well Done!
28th July - 4th August 2007, seven Scouts and five Leaders from the 11th joined four leaders and fourteen Scouts from 5th Spen Valley and visit the Walesby World Experience in Nottinghamshire.
This was a week long camp at the Walesby Forrest Scout Camp site in Nottinghamshire, where around three and a half thousand Scouts and leaders from all over the world joined together to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.
The Scouts and leaders took part in various different activities from Archery to Raft Building, Climbing to JCB driving and lots more. Also included was a day visit to Alton Towers Theme park, cycling in Clumber Park and a visit to the World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park, Essex.
In the summer of 2006 we joined with 7th Spen Valley Scouts (another Gomersal group) and spent 10 days at the Kandersteg International Scout Camp, nestling in a Swiss Valley.
The Cubs and leaders spent a weekend at Squirrel Wood Scout Camp, near Doncaster. Lots of games, activities and fun for all.
